The National Plant Operators Registration Scheme founded in 1992, NPORS was formed to challenge the status quo within the construction industry and we are as dedicated to the goal of ensuring standards today as the day it all began.
NPORS stands firm on the principles it was founded on; supporting industry, regulated training and testing, consistent improvement, equal opportunities and transparency about how we work. Since it’s beginnings, NPORS has continued to progress to be a trusted and recognised name in the industry, offering employers a credible training alternative.
At NPORS, we believe that everyone who operates any form of machinery should be qualified and competent to protect their safety and the safety of others. This is why we meet and maintain standards by providing regulated training and testing by those professionally qualified to do so.
We are proud to be able to offer employers the flexibility to train their workforce on site as well as at dedicated test centres. By offering training and assessments on site with the equipment that would be used every day, this mitigates the risk of any issues with transferring skills from different training equipment when working on site.
The Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS) provides skills cards for the plant sector of the Construction and allied industries. It was launched in 2003 and since then over 300,000 cards have been issued across 64 categories of plant and related occupations. The CPCS Technical Review Group working on behalf of industry continually review and amend the Scheme, in light of on-going Industry feedback, and external factors such as the latest occupational health issues, technology advances and new plant types. As of April 2023 the CPCS are allowing some additional categories to be trained and tested on site providing the training and testing area meets CPCS specifications.

In-house Accreditation is a cheaper alternative to the National Accreditation Scheme's but still provides your workforce with the correct training they need to operate Plant and Machinery in the workplace, In-House Training also covers businesses under guidance from the HSE in relation to people operating Plant and Machinery in the workplace, a legal requirement in the UK under (PUWER98) Regs. Additional benefits of In-House Training is the business and employers get a say in what they would like delivered as part of the training as one size does not fit all in different working environments, In-House Training also benefits smaller construction companies who are not under the jurisdiction of the national accredited bodies but still need staff adequately trained. There is a common misconception that In-House Training is not as good a quality as the nationally accredited training schemes, at Salisbury Training Solutions we do not lower our standards on any training we deliver to our customers Accredited or In-House, providing a high standard all round whether it be Full Novice Training, Intermediate Training, Experienced Worker Tests, or simple Refreshers.
