This course is for people with limited or no experience of operating a crawler crane.

It teaches you how to operate and maintain a crawler crane safely.

Crane / Lift Supervisor

 

This course will enable you to undertake the duties of a crane / lift supervisor as defined by the appointed person.

You will learn how to comply with legislation, regulations, Codes of Practice and industrial requirements.


 Course Content

  • Legislation, regulations and Codes of Practice relating to lifting duties
  • Safe systems of work including method statements
  • Taking personal responsibility
  • Different types of cranes, lifting equipment and associated terminology
  • Understanding crane and lifting equipment documentation
  • Understanding crane and lifting equipment stability, duty charts and safety devices
  • Crane and lifting equipment appreciation
  • Observing British Standard 7121
  • Understanding the role of crane supervisor
  • Understanding the role of appointed person
  • Preparing an area with exclusion zones.

  • 1 day assessment - CPCS/NPORS theory and practical test.

Slinger/Signaller

This course is for people with limited or no experience of slinging and signalling, who want to gain entry into the lifting industry.

On passing the technical tests, we will apply for the CPCS/NPORS trained operator card on your behalf.


  Course Content

  • Establish the weight and dimensions of loads and communicate this information to the crane operator
  • Select appropriate lifting tackle and attach and detach it correctly and safely
  • Use clear and unambiguous signals to direct the actions of a crane moving loads of various weights and dimensions
  • Determine the serviceability of lifting accessories, and maintain and store them.

  • 1 day assessment - CPCS/NPORS theory and practical test.

360 Excavator

This course is for people with limited or no experience of operating a 360 degree excavator above or below 10 tonnes. 

On passing the technical tests, we will apply for the CPCS/NPORS trained operator card on your behalf. 


 Course Content

  • Operate the excavator 360° safely and productively
  • Fit and operate ancillary equipment
  • Site the machine safely and efficiently
  • Carry out minor adjustments and routine servicing procedures
  • Understand the capabilities, purposes and limitations of each machine
  • Follow all necessary safety precautions
  • Interpret the information provided by level pegs and profiles
  • Be aware of the necessary routine adjustments and service procedures, and carry them out
  • Work to levels with the aid of laser equipment.

1 to 10 days

  • Classroom-based teaching and practical exercises
  • 1 day assessment - CPCS/NPORS theory and practical test.

Telescopic Handler

 This course is for people with limited or no experience who want to learn to operate a telescopic handler. 

On passing the technical tests, we will apply for the CPCS/NPORS trained operator card on your behalf.


 Course Content

  • Operate the machine for all normal tasks
  • Decide whether a particular load is safe to lift
  • Carry out routine servicing procedures and maintenance as necessary, in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions
  • Know how the machine works and the maintenance requirements involved
  • Understand the effect of load, size, weight, gradients and ground conditions upon machine stability
  • Know how to load, store and transport representative materials
  • Understand the basic construction of pallets.

Forward Tipping Dumper

This course is for people with limited or no experience who want to learn to operate a wheeled forward tipping dumper.


 Course Content

  • Operate the machine to a minimum standard
  • Fit and operate ancillary equipment
  • Site the machine safely and efficiently
  • Know which minor adjustments and routine servicing procedures are necessary, and be able to carry them out
  • Prepare the machine for travelling on the public highway
  • Understand the capabilities, purposes and limitations of each machine
  • Apply all necessary safety precautions
  • Understand how diesel engines work and how various parts of the machine operate.

1 to 3 Days 

  • Classroom-based teaching and practical exercises
  • 1 day assessment - CPCS/NPORS theory and practical test.

Petrol Driven Cut Off Saw (Disc Cutter)

This course is for people with limited or no experience who want to learn to operate a petrol driven saw.


 Scope

  • storing and transporting 
  • pre-start/post stop inspections  
  • refuelling and recharging 
  • dust suppression and water collection systems 
  • operating machines

 Delivery

Delivery may be in an on or off the job environment 

All materials and equipment must be of a suitable quality and quantity for delegates to achieve learning outcomes and must comply with relevant legislation 

The class size and delegate/trainer ratio must allow training to be delivered in a safe manner and enable delegates to achieve the learning outcomes 

The following delivery methods may be used in the delivery of this standard:

Training and Assessment

1 Day

Methods of assessment considered appropriate for training delivered against this standard are: 

For the successful completion of training, delegates must complete an end of course practical assessment and knowledge test that measures all learning outcomes and has a pass or fail criteria.

Where this training is assessed using multiple-choice questions, a theory test will be given where delegates are required to achieve an overall pass mark of at least 80%.

successful delegates will receive a certificate and I.D card


CAT & GENNY (Cable Avoidance Tool)

 This course trains operatives in the correct operation of the Cable Avoiding Tool (CAT) and Signal Generator (Genny). The equipment is used to locate underground cables and services. The equipment should not be used by operators without proper training.


Who is the course for?

The cable avoiding tool and signal generator (genny) are commonly used to locate underground cable and pipes on site, but they are often used by untrained staff. This could result in errors being made, and the possibility of accidents occurring. This course will enable delegates to understand fully the correct operation and functions of this equipment.

Course content includes:

1 Day

  • Theory of cable location
  • Controls and display indications
  • Calibrating, and pre-use checks
  • Operation of Power and Radio modes
  • Compatibility between C.A.T. and genny
  • Operational techniques
  • Use of accessories supplied
  • Accuracy of results

Completion of the course:
Delegates will take a short written test and undertake a practical test to demonstrate the skills gained through delivery of a presentation, on successful completion delegates will receive a certificate and I.D card.
